DOSBox Multiplayer (Warcraft: Orcs & Humans)

With DOSBox you are able to player multiplayer, but with a few tweaks. You need to create an IPX Tunnel with a host and client type of connection. The only way to achieve this is with a configuration file with the following contents. The host needs to start the connection and the client will connect to the host’s computer, so the clients need to know the IP address or domain of the host.

A configuration file for a client.

[ipx]
ipx=true

[autoexec]
ipxnet connect 192.168.1.56 19900

A configuration file for a host.

[ipx]
ipx=true

[autoexec]
ipxnet startserver 19900

Replace 192.168.1.56 with the server computer IP. If you want this to be distributed over the internet you would replace the 192.168.1.56 address with a public IP address and open/forward the 19900 port on your router to the host’s computer.

For demonstration purposes I created a batch file that gives you all the options for the game Warcraft: Orcs & Humans. You can type in your option to play single player or multiplayer and provide the IP of the host, or as an added option become the host. Place the files in your warcraft game folder. Don’t forget to modify the PLAY_WARCRAFT.bat file with notepad and change the dosbox folder path.

Also, if you want an icon to go with the shortcut here’s a nice one I found and converted.
