Heroes of the Storm: Dehaka, New Map, Hero Reworks

It seems that the release season has arrived for Blizzard Entertainment’s games. In the next 30 days, we will see a lot of new updates to their games, from Diablo 3 to Hearthstone. Of course, having read the title of this post, you know that Heroes of the Storm will also receive an update. However, this one is not a simple update: this is one of the biggest patches HotS has seen to date.

This update will include a multitude of changes to the game, including a brand new hero, a map tailored for a custom game mode, and huge reworks to already existing heroes.

The new hero is the Starcraft II zerg pack leader, Dehaka. Dehaka is bipedal with a large left arm and a small right arm. The small right arm appears to be counterpart for a severed small left arm. He will be a warrior type in Heroes of the Storm, which means that he is built around tanking (absorbing damage in order to protect the weaker heroes in the team) and resistance. Just as in Starcraft II, in Heroes of the Storm, Dehaka’s passive ability will be collecting “essence”: “Gain 10 Essence from Takedowns and 2 Essence from nearby Minions dying. Activate to consume all Essence and heal yourself for 64 (31 + 4% per level) Health over 5 seconds for each Essence stored. Maximum of 50 Essence. Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.”

His main abilities will be Drag(Q), in which Dehaka will drag the enemy attacked with his tongue for 1.75 seconds, Dark Swarm(W), dealing area damage and letting Dehaka move through units, and Burrow(E), in which Dehaka digs a hole into the ground, making him invulnerable to all damage for 2 seconds. His ultimate abilities will be Isolation: “Launch biomass that hits the first enemy Hero dealing 439 (208 + 4% per level) damage, silecing and slowing them for 30% for 3 seconds. Only allows them to see a very short distance for 6 seconds.”, and Adaptation: “After 5 seconds, heal for 60% of the damage you took over this period.”

Dehaka will not be able to equip a mount, but he will be able to press Z (the default button for mounting), and then teleport instantly to any bush on the map.

Dehaka will be available starting March 29 in the Heroes of the Storm store, for 15,000 gold/$9.99 / 9.99€.

Lost Cavern

Lost Cavern is the first Heroes of the Storm map to only be made available for custom game modes, meaning that you will not be able to play it on regular matchmaking or in competitive mode. This map is meant to bring the well-known League of Legends mode called ARAM. Standing for “All Random, All Mid”, it seems that HotS will only be getting the second part of the meaning: you will still have to choose your heroes.

How is this map any different than the rest? Well, while it reuses assets from the Tomb of the Spider Queen map, the map only has one big lane. Focusing on team battles and team battles only, you can’t use the hearthstone, you don’t regain health and mana in the Hall of Storms (the spawn), and the only healing available on the map comes from the regen orbs in the mini-lanes.

This patch will also bring a lot of changes to existing heroes, along with some UI reworking and a new replay feature which will let you analyse what led to your death. The heroes who will receive major talent and ability reworks are Gazlowe, Illidan, Kael’thas, Sylvanas and Tychus.

The patch is already available on the PTR (Blizzard’s test servers, PTR standing for “Public Test Realm”), but it will hit the main servers on March 29.
